I would like to start this article off by telling you, the readers of this article how awesome the swimming team really is. We practice, we put our efforts in, and we also cheer for others to be a faster, better, and everlasting swimmer. I have been in the Delia swimming team for a few weeks, and I had a very fun time swimming, yet on the opposite side, a very hard effort was spent on swimming, as I am not a good swimmer. However, the effort a lot of the proud Delia swimmers showed me the real joy of swimming as a group and a team.
The swimming team started originating from the year 2013, and started off as a dozen or more players. However, by the end of their hard work, they achieved their medals worth for. After a year, the swimming team has increased into a large size, including all those varieties of grades. Swimming in a team gives you a title; the title gives you the payoff of the effort you have put in, and that; is exactly why people is swimming for the swim team. I have had some experience, and I have interviewed some people of the team. Here is a short interview between me and Mr. Smith, one of the coaches of the swimming team. I would like to thank Mr. Smith to spend some time with me in interviewing.
Me: “What do you think you can get/learn from swimming?”
Mr. Smith: “Self-discipline, commitment, and accountability.”
Me: “When were/would be our matches?”
Mr. Smith: “The Senior swimming class had a match on September 14th, and their next match would be on October 28th. The Juniors will have a match on the 30th at HKIS.”
Me: “Do you think we can win the Delia swim gala?”
Mr. Smith: “Yes, we are positioned well to defend our title. Our swim team is very strong this year.”
The end of the interview led me to interview some other members of the swim team. I have interviewed 2 students; Henry Benneff and Shiori Yoshida. I would also like to thank them for the answering of the interviewing.
Me: “Do you like swimming?”
Henry: “Yes. It’s active, and it helps me exercise.”
Shiori: “Yes. I love swimming, and I practiced swimming back in Japan.”
Me: “Why did you join? Why?”
Henry: “I wanted to join because I was in a swimming team in America.”
Shiori: “It’s fun to swim.”
Me: “Do you think you are successful?”
Henry: “I think I am a little bit successful, about 75 percent.”
Shiori: “Yes, I would consider that I am successful 50 percent.”
I would like to thank everyone whom I interviewed on that day for my article.
Continuing, swimming is a very refreshing, active and fun sport, and no matter how bad or good you are, you should join the swimming team, because it will give you a title of being a proud member of the swimming team in the end. The swimming team will race next October 28th for the seniors, and October 30th for the juniors. We hope them good luck to achieve the first spot. Stay tuned for next time as I report on the first swimming games for both seniors and juniors. Thank you for reading this article; this was Reporter James.

For the sports news, I interviewed Mr Riddick about the current school teams as well as the health state of our school.
Mr Riddick spoke confidently and excellently, when asked how he felt about the current school athletes on their health. He replied “I am worried about their health but most athletes who participates in sports are healthy” he also express his concerns that he is more worried about those who do not participate in sports. He said “We could not guarantee for those who do not participate in sports are being active in a regular basis”.
What about basketball, rugby and volleyball, you ask? Well I asked him, how confident he was about the current school teams on these sports. “I expect the girls’ volleyball to bring back the banner this year” Mr Riddick said, he also states that most of the girls have been together for a very long time and most of them are graduating this year. Mr Riddick mostly expect the girls’ volleyball team to win the championships.
For boys’ volleyball, interestingly he said that last year DSC did not have a boys’ volleyball school team so this time most of the boys are very, very dedicated despite their lack of experience and they also work very hard. Recently they won their first game and that ‘win’ was the most impressive win so far.
What about basketball? Mr Riddick said that there is no try outs yet so it is hard for him to say but he expects the school to be very competitive the same this year. For Rugby Mr Riddick was equally confident about the team, he says most of them are very well coached and also seem to do very well. “Most of them are good athletes and some haven’t played rugby before but we seem to do quite well” Mr Riddick also expects them to win the championship towards the end of the season.
When asked the question, will they climb the ladder or immediately fall, he replied that it’s hard to say during sports. Sometimes you get lucky but for right now every team we have are at least at the play outs but still “anything could happen”.
After talking about sports I questioned him on the health state of our fellow students, He replied, “I think most of our athletes are healthy but our student cannot be healthy as they could be” He also express his concerns about how many ridiculous amounts of students every day eating at McDonalds. “In grade 9...” he said, “is the only mandatory PE credit which is only half of the year.” After this he is unsure how active our student are.
Mr Riddick also said that in Hong Kong there is limited space unlike in Canada where you can roam freely in your own backyard but in Hong Kong most students would rather sit on their couch and play league of legends. Mr Riddick also joked about watching YouTube every day. (Due to my addiction to YouTube)
Lastly at the interview I ask whether he would look forward for major sports events, he said it would be track and field that started first time last year. He said that he did not expect at least 50 of his students participating in sports events. It is also interesting to see many students who do not participate in major sports to be good at individual ones as well as seeing many students participating.
Overall I see Mr Riddick is really confident about current school sport teams as well as our athletes. We can never judge those who are big in size or short in height or others appearance because we never know that they may be good at these sports or even healthier than us. Mr Riddick encourage us to exercise even when we are at our most. He encourages us to try our best even when we are not good at it and if we never try how we know when we are good at it. That being said, this also my first interview, I tried my best to ask reasonable questions for The Daily Dragon. This is Raziq your Reporter.
