Student Council
Remembrance Day
By Vivian Li
November 10th, 2014
People say “time heals all wounds”, but does it? The pain may diminish; the scars may fade; but the wounds remain. On November 11th, remember them – the veterans who have died in the line of duty during the First World War; the heroes who have sacrificed their lives for their countries. Their attachment to their homelands and devotion to their countries need to be remembered. Without their courage, service, and sacrifices, the world would not have been as strong, proud, and free as today.
To raise awareness on World War One veterans, the student council has designed questionnaires which will be distributed to each homeroom. Questions on what Remembrance Day is and what purpose it serves will be asked. Moreover, our students will share their opinions and show their respects to the veterans.
In Flanders Fields
McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Halloween Dance Prep and Party
Halloween Dance Prep and Party

On Student Council News, The Halloween Dance Night is over and it was a ‘Crazy and Spooky Party’ many students said. With Runaway City performing, there was a wild crowd cheering and screaming their hearts out for the band. Unexpectedly, teachers were also wearing costumes. Ms. De Castro was dressed as Harley Quinn, Mr. Murray as the Joker and Mr. Szychta as Spiderman. The most unexpected costume of all was Mr. Riddick, as Captain Hook.
I was dressed as a Jedi but nobody saw it that way. While students were
dressed like Greek gods and goddesses, jokers, zombies, clowns and Mickey mouse,
the toughest students were wearing dinosaur costumes. I asked some students how
the party turned out and they said it was awesome and it was really fun to see so
many funny and scary costumes. The student Council achieved its goal on making the
Halloween Dance, something for the students to remember. Props and Decorations are
“perfect” some students remarked and it “fits the theme quite well” Nacho said as a Joker."
3 hours before the Dance, Our fellow Student Council members, and myself, finished up the few last decorations after Thursday’s big preparation. The big challenge for the student council was the placement of decorations and the DJ setup. Another challenge was making the decorations. The student council worked hard and sacrificed some of their free time to make sure this Dance would be a success.
After decorating and setting up, I interviewed Kyle, Proud and Sheng Bi on how nervous were they before the Dance. Kyle said, “I am not nervous anymore because I’ve been playing in school performances, dances and talent shows many times in DSC so this is relatively natural to me.” Meanwhile, Proud said “I am really nervous, but we still have to do our best for our part.” Kyle was confident, Proud was nervous and what about Sheng Bi you ask? Well he replied, “This is my 3rd time on stage performing so obviously I’m a little nervous but also confident at the same time.” How they come together as a band is a little short story. Kyle, Jordan and Sheng Bi were the original band and with Shefaly as the Band ‘Manager’. Then Sheng Bi and Proud met in French class and then the whole band was formed.
Overall the Dance was a “night to remember” a fellow student said. It was a goal achieved for the Student Council and a fun, spooky, ghostly, scary and awesome dance. This is Raziq, your reporter.
