Stride for a Cure

By Dhwani Anand

This year, ‘Stride for a Cure’ took place on Sunday, the 23rd of November. The day started off with

a dull sky but then later progressively became clearer and bright. After a roughly 45 minutes bus

drive from the Central Ferry Pier, the participants finally arrived the location, after which we got free

t-shirts, water and brunch coupons upon registration.

Each of us later grabbed a balloon and started marching our way through the crowd. The view of

the Tai Tam Reservoir was beautifully breathtaking and generated a serene and peaceful atmosphere.

Later in the day, the weather got warmer and we started to feel exhausted. However, because of the

fact of it being for a good cause, this motivation kept us going.

After we had finished the walk, there was a bunch of crowd waiting to cheer for us. We de-registered

ourselves, and finally collected free brunch with the coupons that were provided to us. There were

both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I opted for the non-vegetarian one. It included a whole

wheat burger stuffed with chicken, tomato, lettuce; a fruit, and a salad. We sat down on

the grassy fields, and ate our brunch in the midst of the lovely weather as we were waiting

for the shuttle bus to arrive. It was a long wait and as the weather started to get hotter

and hotter, we decided to rather catch a mini-bus than going by the free-shuttle bus. After

a miss of 3-4 buses, we finally got a bus that had enough seats for all the DSC students that

were also travelling back home with us. It was a relaxing yet exhausting event, but it was

worth it since it helped the cancer patients who are struggling to survive in Hong Kong.

The fact that I could be one of those lucky people who could lend a helping hand to them

gave me pleasure and satisfaction deep inside.
